FBI retires Carnivore

The Register reports: "FBI surveillance experts have put their once-controversial Carnivore Internet surveillance tool out to pasture, preferring instead to use commercial products to eavesdrop on network traffic, according to documents released Friday."

The FBI first start using Carnivore 1999 to eavesdrop on people whom why wanted to monitor. It was really nothing but a packet sniffer, with an ominous name.
